Embarking on an adventure holiday is exciting, and having the right gear can make all the difference. Durable Hiking Boots: With good ankle support and grip. Comfortable Walking Shoes: For casual strolls or at the campsite. Socks: Moisture-wicking and cushioned socks to prevent blisters and provide comfort. Hats and Gloves: A sun hat for UV protection and a warm hat and gloves for cold weather.  Gear and Equipment Backpack: With sufficient capacity and comfortable straps. Sleeping Bag: Suitable for the climate and compact. Camping Mat: For insulation and comfort while sleeping. Tent: If camping, choose something lightweight and easy to set up. Cooking Equipment: A portable stove, fuel, lighter, and cookware. Food and Water Supplies: Non-perishable items, a water filtration system or purification tablets, water bottle. This scenic hike is not just a journey through the lush landscapes of Ireland, but also a walk through time, exploring the remnants of an ancient past. Event Details: Date & Time: Meeting at 9:30am at the Visitors Centre Car Park at Glendalough. Duration: Approximately 4 - 5 hours. Distance & Elevation: 13 kilometres with a 180 metres height gain. Parking: Weekend car parking charge applies at the Centre. Highlights: Traverse the sites of six ancient churches and the cathedral. Discover the historic mining works. Delve into the rich history of Glendalough. Dog-Friendly: Your furry friends are welcome to join but must be kept on a lead at all times. Preparation is Key: The weather can be unpredictable, so please dress appropriately. Check the local forecast before you head out and be prepared for all conditions. Start the day with a morning hike up the Great Sugar Loaf with Siúl Linn and the 53 Degrees North Adventure Club on Thursday 28th. Picture this: a morning filled with laughter, craic, and breath-taking views as we conquer this 501-meter-high majestic mountain, offering views from Dublin to Wicklow. We’ll kick things off at the Great Sugar Loaf Car Park bright and early at 7:15 AM. Be sure to have your boots tied and your sense of adventure ready because we're hitting the trail at 7:30 AM sharp. The duration of the morning will be about 2.5 hours and at the summit? Well, let's just say the 53 Degrees North Adventure Club has a little surprise waiting for you: a warm rasher sambo - a perfect way to refuel and take in the beautiful scenery. On Siúl Linn adventures, we're all about the craic and the camaraderie. Feel free to bring along your best batch of baked goods to share because there's nothing like a bit of home-cooked sweetness to fuel our adventure! But there is absolutely no pressure to do so. What to wear You should wear solid walking shoes / walking boots with firm, moulded soles. Deck shoes, runners or street shoes are not suitable and may lead to injury, this is true in dry conditions and more so in wet conditions. Rain jacket and rain bottoms - Waterproof & breathable, bring even if not expecting rain. Clothing layers should preferably be of synthetic materials or merino wool / bamboo - no cotton as this absorbs moisture and causes the body to loose heat rapidly when wet. In particular denim clothing should be avoided. A supply of drinking water for hydration and some snacks to provide sugar intake as a boost when you need it. Head covering, sun glasses, sun screen - high factor to prevent burn, bring even if you are not expecting sun. Rucksack / backpack - to carry everything in. In wet conditions it is recommended that the bag be lined with a plastic bag to keep its contents dry. If you can no longer make it please let us know or else cancel your booking through Eventbrite. Along the way, our experienced mountain guides will share local knowledge and encourage you during the hike. This hike will be joined by Jen Healy. Jen is a Mental Health & Wellness advocate with over 15yrs experience working in the mental health field. Jen’s passion is teaching people to let go of limiting beliefs and living to their full potential. Nature plays a huge role in Jen’s life.  The power of the mountains and oceans in healing & helping people with their mental health is something she's very passionate about promoting and through multiple events and retreats in Ireland and abroad. All of her work combines Spiritual & Scientific elements. As a keen neuroscience coach she's always striving to help people understand their Mind and their capabilities.
