POLARTEC Power Stretch
Drilite® Loft is Mountain Equipment's exclusive range of highly water repellent fabrics used in their insulated clothing and equipment.
Drilite® Loft uses a polyurethane membrane bonded to the reverse of a 100% nylon face to provide greatly improved water resistance, exceeding a hydrostatic head of 1500mm. In its illustrious history Drilite® Loft has been to the top of most, if not all, of the world's 8000 metre peaks, has seen use on Piolet d'Or-winning expeditions, and on world record breaking polar crossings.
Some of the highlights include: Drilite® Loft 30D (also known as Drilite® Loft II) is their time-tested and most durable iteration of Drilite® Loft, borne from years of development work and countless hours of user testing. It is the ideal fabric for clothing and sleeping bags destined for serious mountaineering, climbing, and backpacking in difficult conditions. Weighing 55g/m2 and with its 1500mm hydrostatic head it is ideal for protecting high quality down and synthetic insulations.
Drilite® Loft 20D is a lighter version of Drilite, developed to meet the needs of those users who require a lightweight and yet still durable fabric for routes where protection is still valued.
DRILITE® Loft XERO continues the evolution of Mountain Equipment's own exclusive Drilite® water resistant fabric programme. It is staggeringly light at just 28g/m2 and yet it still boasts a 1500 mm hydrostatic head. It is purpose-made for Super Alpine climbing and the most lightweight high altitude or winter expeditions where protection, pack size and weight are critical to success, or even survival.
Down is the finest insulator that we have. Its warmth to weight ratio, compressibility, long lifespan, and softness are yet to be matched by manmade insulations. For all but the most serious expeditions, duck down is a great choice for both insulated clothing and equipment.
Mountain Equipment's duck down is DOWN CODEX approved and obtained from one of our trusted suppliers. It is individually batch-tested to ensure its fill power exceeds 700 fill power and a minimum down cluster content of 90%. As with all of our virgin down, it is DOWN CODEX audited.
The DOWN CODEX® places animal welfare, quality and sustainability at the heart of each and every one of Mountain Equipment's down insulated products.
First created in 2009, its key aim is to manage and reduce risk in their down supply chain by constantly working to develop Mountain Equipment's knowledge and best practice, backed up by comprehensive and transparent auditing.
Mountain Equipment was first awarded ‘Leader Status’ by Fair Wear Foundation in 2016 and has been awarded their highest accolade for performance every year since.
As a member of Fair Wear, Mountain Equipment is committed to implementing the strict 8-point Fair Wear Code of Labour Practices, which is based on UN and ILO principles, in all production facilities and so meets the highest standards for socially equitable working conditions. These include, among others, the payment of living wages, reasonable working hours, safe and healthy working conditions, prevention of child labour and many more.
