About the brand

Keen

Keen is an American footwear brand, founded in 2003 in Alameda, California by Martin Keen and Rory Fuerst, and now based in Portland, Oregon. The idea began on a sailboat, where Martin Keen wanted a sandal that could protect his toes. The result was the Newport, a hybrid sandal with a distinctive rubber toe bumper that launched the brand and remains its signature.

From that start Keen has grown into hiking boots, shoes, sandals, work footwear and bags, all sharing the same focus on toe protection, roomy comfort and durability. The brand is family-owned and known for a values-driven approach, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and footwear made to last rather than be thrown away.
