About the brand

Ruffwear

Ruffwear is an American brand making outdoor gear for dogs, founded by Patrick Kruse and based in Bend, Oregon. The idea came on a mountain bike ride, when a friend struggled to give her dog water from a plastic bag, so Kruse sewed a collapsible dog bowl from waterproof tent fabric.

He took 15 of them to an outdoor trade show in 1994 and came away with thousands of orders, and the business grew from there, moving to Bend a couple of years later. Tested by real adventuring dogs, the range now covers harnesses, leashes, dog boots, coats, packs and safety gear, all built to the same standard as human outdoor kit so dogs can keep up on any adventure.
