Drinkware

A bottle is the one piece of kit that gets used every single day. The range covers bottles, tumblers, travel mugs and flasks, from vacuum stainless steel that holds a temperature all day to light plastic bottles that do one job well. Sizes run from an espresso cup to a 2.3L workhorse, so the choice is really about what you drink and how far you carry it.

How to choose drinkware

Most of the decision comes down to three things: what you are putting in it, how you drink from it, and where it spends its day.

Insulated or plastic depends on what you drink

A plastic bottle is light, tough and inexpensive, and it carries cold water very well. That is the whole job. Vacuum stainless steel has two walls with the air drawn out between them, so heat cannot move in or out, which means it takes hot drinks as well as cold and keeps ice alive through the afternoon. Neither is better. They answer different questions.

Bottles, tumblers and travel mugs suit different days

A bottle with a screw or straw cap seals fully and lives in a pack. A tumbler is open-topped with a slider or straw lid, built for a desk, a car or a camp chair. A travel mug sits between the two, sealed enough for a commute and still easy to drink from on the move.

Lid choice matters more than people expect

Chug and flip caps give a fast pour when you are moving. Straw lids suit sipping with your hands busy, and magnetic or slider lids cut splashes without fully sealing. Most ranges let you swap lids later, so it is worth thinking about how you actually drink before you choose.

Size to the day, not to the biggest number

Around 500ml to 750ml fits most pack side pockets and stays easy to carry. A litre or more cuts refills on long days and hot work but adds real weight once full. For tumblers, the deciding factor is usually whether it fits a car cup holder.

Frequently asked questions

How long does insulated drinkware keep drinks hot or cold?

It depends on the size, the lid and how full it is, but a good vacuum stainless bottle will typically hold hot drinks warm for most of a day and cold drinks cold for longer again. A full container holds temperature far better than a half empty one, and every time you open the lid you reset the clock. Pre-warming or pre-chilling it with water before you fill makes a noticeable difference.

What is the difference between a tumbler and a travel mug?

A tumbler is open-topped with a press-on or slider lid, designed for drinking at a desk, in a car or around camp. It resists splashes but will spill if it goes over. A travel mug seals more firmly, usually with a flip or screw closure, so it can go in a bag without soaking everything. If it travels upright and stays put, a tumbler is fine. If it goes in a pack, choose a sealed mug or a bottle.

Are insulated bottles and tumblers dishwasher safe?

Most modern vacuum stainless bottles and tumblers are dishwasher safe, lids included, though it is worth checking the individual product. Older painted finishes and anything with a ceramic lining can be more sensitive. For straw lids and caps, taking the gasket out and washing it separately is what keeps them from going stale.

What size bottle should I choose?

For a half day walk or the commute, 500ml to 750ml is usually plenty and fits most pack side pockets. For full days, hot weather or physical work, a litre or more saves refilling at the cost of carrying the extra weight. Kids generally do better with a smaller straw bottle they can open themselves than with a large cap they cannot.
