What is the difference between a hooded towel and a changing robe?

A hooded towel is towelling, made to dry you and cover you while you change. A changing robe usually adds a waterproof outer and a warm lining, so it also keeps wind and rain off for much longer afterwards.

Can I change under a hooded towel?

That is exactly what it is for. Pull it on over your head, then get out of your wet things underneath it. There is enough room to work your arms free and swap into dry clothes without ever being exposed.

How do I dry it out between swims?

Hang it up in open air as soon as you get home rather than leaving it in a bag or a boot. Damp towelling left balled up will smell within a day or two, and that smell is genuinely hard to shift once it takes hold.

Are they warm enough for winter swimming?

They will dry you and block the wind, which covers most of what you need. For regular winter swimming, many people pull a hooded towel on first and add a proper insulated changing robe over the top once they are dry.
