Rip Curl Waterproof Bags

Every surfer eventually learns the same lesson about putting a wet wetsuit straight into a car boot. A waterproof bucket or dry bag keeps sodden neoprene and sandy kit contained, doubles as somewhere to stand while you change, and stops the whole car smelling of the sea by Wednesday.

Rip Curl waterproof bags and wetsuit buckets

This is the least glamorous piece of kit you will buy and one of the few you use every single time.

Contains wet, sandy kit

Waterproof fabric and a sealed base hold soaking neoprene, sand and seawater in one place, which is the difference between a car that smells fine and a car that does not.

Doubles as somewhere to stand

Stand in the open bucket to peel off a wetsuit and your feet stay off the gravel while the suit drops straight in. It is a simple idea and it changes how tolerable changing at the beach is.

Roll-top and sealed designs keep water out

A roll-top closure works in both directions, sealing wet kit in or keeping dry clothes, phones and keys reliably dry while everything around them is not.

Built to be dragged around

Tough, coated fabric and reinforced seams put up with sand, salt, gravel and being thrown into a boot, which is the actual life these bags lead rather than a theoretical one.

Frequently asked questions

What is a wetsuit bucket for?

Two things at once. You stand in it to take off your wetsuit, keeping your feet clean, and then the wet suit sits inside it for the journey home so it is not soaking everything else in the car.

Is a waterproof bag the same as a dry bag?

Broadly, though the emphasis differs. A dry bag is sealed to keep water out and protect its contents. A wetsuit bucket is designed to keep water in. Roll-top designs are capable of doing both jobs depending on which side of the problem you have.

Will it keep my phone dry?

A roll-top dry bag, properly closed with several folds, will keep contents dry through splashes and rain. No general-purpose bag should be trusted for full submersion with a phone unless it explicitly states a submersion rating.

How do I stop it smelling?

Rinse it out with fresh water and turn it inside out to dry after each use, particularly if a wet suit has been sitting in it. Salt water and neoprene left in a sealed bag will turn quickly in warm weather.
