Frequently asked questions
Are The North Face hiking boots waterproof?
Most, including the Hedgehog and Offtrail Hike, use a GORE-TEX waterproof membrane to keep feet dry in rain, bog and puddles. The product page confirms the waterproofing on each style.
What is the difference between the Hedgehog and Offtrail Hike?
The Hedgehog is The North Face's long-running, durable hiking line with a proven outsole. The Offtrail Hike is a newer, lighter design. Both come in waterproof builds, so the choice comes down to fit and how much weight you want underfoot.
Are The North Face boots good for hillwalking with a pack?
The mid-height boots add ankle support for uneven ground and lighter loads, which suits day hikes and hill days. For very technical or heavily loaded routes, a stiffer mountain boot may suit better.
Do I need to break in The North Face hiking boots?
Most modern styles like the Offtrail Hike use lighter, more flexible materials and feel comfortable quite quickly, while more supportive mid boots benefit from a few shorter walks first. Wear them around the house and on easy ground before a big day to let them mould to your feet and to check the fit with your hiking socks. Breaking them in reduces the chance of rubbing on a long descent.
