Breathable waterproof footwear is designed to keep your feet dry while allowing sweat vapour to escape. But once the outer fabric or leather absorbs water, breathability drops and your feet can start to feel damp and uncomfortable.
To stay comfortable, the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) on your footwear must be maintained. Over time, this protective layer wears away and needs to be renewed with Nikwax Fabric & Leather Proof™.

When to Use Nikwax Fabric & Leather Proof™
If your footwear is soaking up water, start by cleaning it with Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel™. For newer or recently reproofed footwear, cleaning alone may revive the DWR. But once your boots are well worn, you’ll need to reapply Fabric & Leather Proof™ after cleaning to fully restore protection.

Some waterproofing sprays are solvent-based or use PFAS. These can be flammable, harmful to the environment, or compromise breathability.

How to use

Nikwax Fabric And Leather Proof Sponge-On Waterproofer

Important: Shake bottle before use. Always clean footwear first with Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel™.

Sponge Application

Protect your work surface from potential overrun.
Dab the sponge to release product.
Apply evenly to clean, wet footwear.
After 2 minutes, remove any excess with a cloth.
Allow footwear to dry naturally before use.

Drying Instructions

Always allow footwear to dry naturally at room temperature.
Stuff paper into the toes to absorb excess moisture, replacing when wet.
Keep footwear away from direct heat sources such as fires or radiators — drying too quickly may crack leather or damage bonded soles.
