Description

Road-to-trail versatility is the focus of the Hoka Men's Challenger 8 Running Shoes, combining protective cushioning with a tread pattern designed to work across mixed surfaces. Compression-moulded EVA softens impact underfoot, while multi-directional 4mm lugs add bite when the route moves from tarmac onto paths and trail.

The engineered-mesh upper is made from 100% recycled polyester and keeps the shoe light and breathable, with a 3D screen-printed toe cap adding protection at the front. Reflective details improve visibility in lower light. Hoka describes the cushioning as balanced and the stability as neutral, giving the Challenger 8 a straightforward supportive feel without additional corrective structures. The listed weight is 287g with an 8mm heel-to-toe drop.

About the brand

Hoka

Hoka, originally Hoka One One, is a running brand founded in 2009 in Annecy, France, by Nicolas Mermoud and Jean-Luc Diard, two trail runners who had previously worked at Salomon. They wanted a shoe that let them run downhill faster and with less fatigue, so they went against the minimalist trend of the time and built in far more cushioning. The name comes from a Maori phrase meaning to fly over the earth.

That maximalist idea, an oversized midsole with soft, deep cushioning, is still what Hoka is known for. Paired with a rocker-shaped sole that smooths each stride, it helps reduce impact over long distances. The range now covers road and trail running, walking and recovery footwear for every kind of runner.
