Why Use the Twin Pack

Over time, dirt and residue reduce the effectiveness of your softshell clothing. This leads to reduced breathability and causes fabrics to absorb water.

Tech Wash® removes these contaminants while restoring existing water repellency. Once cleaned, Softshell Proof™ Wash-In adds a fresh layer of Durable Water Repellency (DWR), helping your gear shed water and perform at its best.

Used together, they keep your clothing warmer, drier and more comfortable.

The Nikwax Tech Wash® & SoftShell Proof™ system is designed to clean, restore and protect your softshell clothing. It removes dirt, revitalises water repellency, and restores breathability, keeping your gear performing in wet and demanding conditions.
Why Cleaning and Reproofing Matter
Breathable garments rely on Durable Water Repellency (DWR) to function properly. When the outer fabric absorbs water, breathability can drop significantly, leaving you feeling clammy and wet.
Dirt and residues from conventional detergents can also attract water, causing fabrics to ‘wet out’ and reducing performance.
Nikwax Tech Wash® removes these contaminants and revitalises existing DWR, restoring breathability.

Nikwax SoftShell Proof™ then adds a fresh layer of DWR, ensuring water beads off the surface while moisture vapour can still escape.
Built for Softshell Performance
Softshell garments combine stretch, breathability and weather resistance, making them ideal for active use. However, to maintain this balance, their water-repellent coating must be regularly maintained.

How It Works
1. Clean with Tech Wash®
  Removes dirt, sweat and detergent residues that reduce performance.
  Revitalises existing DWR and restores breathability.

  Requires no heat activation, protecting more delicate garments.

Regular cleaning helps extend the life of your gear. You can typically clean garments multiple times with Tech Wash® before reproofing is needed. When water no longer beads on the surface, it’s time to apply SoftShell Proof™.

What's included
Step 1: Clean with Nikwax Tech Wash® (Washing Machine)…
IMPORTANT: Shake bottle before use. Do not use conventional detergents. Use undiluted Tech Wash® to treat stubborn stains before washing.
- Remove all detergent build-up from the detergent dispenser.
- Place a maximum of 2 garments in the washing machine.
- Use 150ml in medium/hard water areas or 100ml in soft water areas.
- Run a 30°C synthetic cycle on a slow spin.
Drying:
Do not dry before waterproofing.
Nikwax Tech Wash® can also be applied by hand…
IMPORTANT: Use gloves.
- Immerse item(s) in 7.5L of warm water.
- Add 150ml in medium/hard water areas or 100ml in soft water areas (for 1–2 items).
- Agitate to mix.
- Rinse 3 times in clean water.
Drying:
Do not dry before waterproofing.
Step 2: Reproof with Nikwax SoftShell Proof™ Wash-In (Washing Machine)…
IMPORTANT: Shake bottle before use. Do not use conventional detergents. Always clean first with Nikwax® Tech Wash® in a separate wash cycle. Do not dry before waterproofing.
- Remove all detergent build-up from the detergent dispenser.
- Place a maximum of 1 clean garment in the washing machine.
- Add 100ml of SoftShell Proof™.
- Run a 30°C synthetic cycle on a slow spin.
Nikwax SoftShell Proof™ Wash-In can also be applied by hand…
IMPORTANT: Use gloves.
- Immerse 1 clean garment in 7.5L of hand-hot water.
- Add 50ml of SoftShell Proof™.
- Agitate to mix and leave to soak for 5 minutes.
- Agitate thoroughly again.
- Rinse with cold water until water runs clear.
Drying:
Air dry or tumble dry on a low setting if care label allows. No heat is required to activate DWR.
Care Advice:
To maintain waterproofing, always wash with Nikwax® Tech Wash®. Do not use conventional detergents.
