Osprey Child Carriers
Frequently asked questions
At what age can a child go in a hiking carrier?
As a general guide, a child can use a framed carrier once they can sit up unaided and hold their head steady on their own, often around six months, up to a weight limit set by the carrier. Always check the specific model's minimum requirements and maximum load before use.
How much weight can an Osprey child carrier hold?
Each model states a maximum combined weight for the child and their gear, commonly in the region of 22 to 25kg total. Staying within that limit keeps the frame and harness working as intended and the ride comfortable for both of you.
How do I keep my child comfortable on a hike?
Adjust the seat so they sit upright with good support, use the sunshade against sun and light rain, and dress them in layers since a carried child moves less than you and cools down faster. Regular short breaks to stretch and snack help on longer days.
What is the difference between the standard and lightweight carriers?
The fuller-featured carriers add storage, adjustability and extras for longer days, while the lightweight versions strip weight and bulk for shorter outings and easier transport. Choose based on how far you plan to walk and how much kit you carry.
