The Trail Lite pots are hard-anodised aluminium — lighter and more compact for fast-and-light trips where you are boiling water and rehydrating food. The Ceramic range has a non-stick ceramic coating, which makes cooking real meals easier and cleaning quicker. The trade is a small weight penalty. If you are cooking on a stove regularly, the Ceramic is worth it; if you are mostly just boiling water, Trail Lite is the better choice.

MSR pots work with any stove that has a stable burner head — canister stoves, alcohol stoves and most integrated stove systems. They are specifically designed to pair with MSR canister stoves like the PocketRocket and Switch System. For remote canister stoves such as the LowDown adapter, check the pot diameter matches the burner spread.

The Ceramic-coated pots clean easily with warm water and a soft cloth — avoid metal scourers which damage the coating. The Trail Lite hard-anodised pots are more robust and can handle a light scrub. In the field, a small amount of biodegradable soap and a pot scraper is enough. Allow pots to cool before washing to protect the coating and extend the lifespan.

For solo cooking, a 1L to 1.3L pot covers most needs — boiling water for a meal and a hot drink without carrying excess volume. For two people, 2L is the practical minimum. The MSR Ceramic Solo Pot and Trail Lite 1.3L are the go-to solo options; the Trail Lite 2L and Ceramic 2.5L suit pairs.
