Are Columbia gloves waterproof?
Some are, some are not, so it is worth checking what you need. The ski and winter styles like the Whirlibird use a waterproof, breathable insert to keep hands dry in snow and rain, while knitted and fleece gloves focus on warmth and dexterity for drier, cold days and will wet through in rain. If you want gloves for wet Irish winters or on the slopes, look for a waterproof insert on the product page; for dry commutes and everyday wear a fleece glove is lighter and handier.
What is Omni-Heat in Columbia gloves?
Omni-Heat is Columbia's reflective thermal lining, the pattern of little metallic dots inside the glove that reflects your hand's own heat back rather than relying only on padding. It adds real warmth without making the glove thick or clumsy, which matters in a glove because bulk costs you dexterity. That makes Omni-Heat gloves a good pick when you want warm hands but still need to handle poles, zips or a phone, and the warmest ski styles combine it with insulation.
Are Columbia gloves touchscreen compatible?
Many are, with conductive material worked into the fingertips, usually the thumb and index finger, so you can use a phone or a screen without taking the glove off in the cold. It is not on every style, and thicker ski gloves are less likely to have it, so check the product page if it matters to you. The touchscreen fingertips can wear over time with heavy use, which is normal.
How should Columbia gloves fit?
A glove should fit snugly with a little room at the end of the fingers, close enough to keep dexterity but not so tight that it restricts circulation, which actually makes hands colder. Measure around your palm at the knuckles to find your size if you are unsure, and keep any liner you plan to wear in mind.
