Columbia ski jackets for the slopes

A ski jacket has one job: keep you warm and dry on the mountain. Columbia ski jackets combine waterproof Omni-Tech shells with Omni-Heat insulation to seal out snow and hold warmth.

Waterproof Omni-Tech shells

A waterproof, breathable Omni-Tech shell with sealed seams keeps snow and wet out while letting sweat escape through a hard day of skiing.

Omni-Heat insulation for warmth

Reflective Omni-Heat lining and insulation trap body heat, holding warmth on cold chairlifts and exposed runs.

Snow-ready features

Powder skirts, helmet-compatible hoods and pass pockets add the practical details that make a jacket work on the mountain.

Fits for men and women

Men's and women's cuts run through the range, giving room to layer underneath while keeping snow out at the cuffs and hem.

Frequently asked questions

Are Columbia ski jackets waterproof?

Most are. The mountain styles use an Omni-Tech waterproof, breathable membrane with taped seams, so wet snow and sleet stay out while sweat vapour still escapes on the climb back to the lift. A few resort styles are water-resistant and insulated rather than fully seam-sealed, which is fine for dry, cold days but not for wet snow. If you ski somewhere that rains as often as it snows, check the product page lists Omni-Tech.

How warm are Columbia ski jackets?

Warm enough for lift-served skiing in real cold, thanks to synthetic insulation paired with Omni-Heat, the reflective dotted lining that bounces your body heat back without adding bulk. How warm depends on the model: a heavily insulated jacket suits resort days spent riding lifts and standing in cold wind, while a lighter Omni-Heat shell is better if you run hot or want to add your own midlayer. If you feel the cold on chairlifts, size up a touch so a fleece fits underneath.

Do Columbia ski jackets have snow features?

The dedicated ski jackets do. Look for a powder skirt that seals at the waist to keep snow out after a fall, a helmet-compatible hood, a goggle or lift-pass pocket, and on the more technical models a wrist gaiter and RECCO reflector. These are the details that separate a true ski jacket from a warm winter coat, so if you want it for the slopes rather than the school run, check they are listed.

Should I size up a Columbia ski jacket for layers?

Usually not by much. Columbia cuts its ski jackets with room for a baselayer and a midlayer already built in, so most people take their normal size and still fit a fleece underneath. Only size up if you plan to wear a thick insulated midlayer or like a relaxed fit, and bear in mind a jacket that is too big lets warm air escape at the hem and cuffs. Try it on with the layers you actually ski in before deciding.
