Columbia walking shoes for trail and town

Not every walk needs a boot. Columbia walking shoes give you OutDry waterproofing and trail-ready grip in a lighter, low-cut shoe for day walks and everyday wear.

OutDry waterproofing stays dry

OutDry membranes on many styles keep feet dry on wet paths and grassy trails, without the bulk of a full boot.

Grip for trail and path

Grippy Omni-Grip and Adapt Trax outsoles handle mixed ground, from forest trails to wet pavement, with steady traction.

Lightweight and low-cut

A low-cut design and cushioned midsole keep the shoe light and free underfoot, ideal for faster walks and travel days.

Fits for men and women

Men's and women's fits run across the range, so you can get a secure, comfortable shoe for the trail and the street.

Frequently asked questions

Are Columbia walking shoes waterproof?

Many are, using a seam-sealed OutDry or Omni-Tech membrane that keeps feet dry on damp paths, wet grass and light trails while still breathing. Others in the range are deliberately ventilated with mesh uppers for hot, dry conditions and are not waterproof, trading weather protection for coolness and fast drying. Decide by where you will wear them: waterproof for the Irish year round, ventilated for summer and travel, and check the product page since both feature in the range.

Walking shoes or hiking boots?

Walking shoes are lighter, cooler and freer on the foot, which makes them ideal for paths, easier trails and dry days, and plenty of walkers prefer them for the comfort. Boots add ankle support, a stiffer sole and more protection, which earns their weight on rough, uneven ground, steep descents and when carrying a heavier pack. For Irish hillwalking in wet and boggy conditions a mid boot is the safer all-rounder, but for trails and travel a walking shoe is often the better pick, and many people own both.

Can I wear Columbia walking shoes every day?

Yes, easily. The cushioned comfort and grippy outsole that work on the trail also make them comfortable for everyday wear, travel and being on your feet all day, and much of the range has clean enough styling to pass off the trail. A waterproof pair doubles nicely as a wet-weather everyday shoe. The only trade-off is that heavy trail use wears the outsole faster than pavement, so a dedicated trail pair lasts longer if you hike often.

Do Columbia walking shoes run true to size?

Generally yes, most people take their usual size, but it is worth trying them with the socks you will actually wear, since a walking sock is thicker than an everyday one. Columbia tends to cut a medium width, so if you have a wide foot check the fit around the ball of the shoe rather than just the length. Try them on later in the day when your feet have swollen slightly, and if you are between sizes, size up for comfort on longer walks and descents.
