Are Columbia hoodies warm?
Most are comfortably warm for everyday cool weather, using a soft fleece-back cotton blend that holds heat well and feels cosy against the skin. They work as a standalone top on a mild day and as a warm midlayer when it turns colder. They are not technical insulation, so for genuine winter cold you will want a fleece or insulated jacket over the top, but for day-to-day wear and mild outdoor use they are a warm, easy choice.
Are Columbia hoodies cotton or technical?
Most are casual cotton-blend styles built for comfort and everyday wear rather than performance, which is what makes them so wearable off the trail. Some styles do use more technical or fleece fabrics for outdoor use, so if you want quick-drying or moving-sweat properties for active days, check the fabric on the product page. As a rule, treat the cotton-blend hoodies as comfortable casual layers rather than gear for hard exercise in the wet.
Can I layer a Columbia hoodie under a jacket?
Yes, a hoodie makes a good warm midlayer under a waterproof or insulated jacket on cooler days, and it stands on its own when the weather is mild. Bear in mind a cotton-blend hoodie is bulkier than a fleece and slower to dry if it gets damp with sweat or rain, so for active or wet days a technical fleece layers better. How do I wash a Columbia hoodie?
Wash inside out on a cool, gentle cycle with ordinary detergent, which protects any print or embroidery and helps stop the colours fading. Skip the fabric softener on the more technical fleece-back styles, since it can dull their feel and any wicking. Dry on low or on a line, as high heat is the main cause of cotton-blend shrinkage and of cracking on a printed logo. Washing it inside out and with similar colours keeps it looking newer for longer.
