What is the difference between a swimsuit and a surf suit?

A surf suit is a swimsuit built for movement in waves, usually with more coverage, more secure straps and often long sleeves with UPF fabric. A standard swimsuit prioritises comfort and style for swimming and sunbathing rather than staying put in surf.

Will a one piece stay on in waves?

A surf-oriented one piece is designed to. Look for a higher back, secure or crossed straps and a snug fit through the body. Fashion-cut swimsuits with loose straps and low backs will shift in anything more than gentle water.

How should a swimsuit fit?

Snug enough that it does not move when you pull at the shoulders or the leg openings, but without digging in or pulling at the shoulders when you raise your arms. Remember that most swim fabrics relax very slightly once wet.

Can I wear a swimsuit under a wetsuit?

Yes, and most people do. A smooth, flat one piece or bikini underneath makes a wetsuit easier to pull on and reduces chafing. Avoid anything with thick seams, chunky ties or hardware, which press uncomfortably under neoprene.
